The Schönberg outdoor pool was opened in May 50 years ago.
General renovation urgently needed
It has been continuously renovated, and this year the municipality has invested 30,000 euros to be able to operate the large swimming pool at least over the summer and also in the next season. However, the costs of an urgently needed general renovation or a new building can hardly be met by the community, says Mayor Michael Strommer.
“Kamptal Flamingos” want to help
And the operating costs are also very high, which is why Strommer started a discussion last year about how the pool could continue to be operated cost-effectively. Pool visitors got together and started an initiative to save the pool, which has now resulted in an association: Peter Zaiser and Franz Svehla are the proponents of an initially 15-strong committee, the “Kamptal Flamingos”, which are “dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the leisure center Use Schönberg am Kamp as a recreation area, sports and cultural site”.
Up to 100,000 euros in costs per year
“The pool is a meeting place for families, the children learn to swim here, the community should recognize and promote the social and socio-political benefits of this facility,” emphasize the two founders of the added value for the community – and they want “with advice and action ” help. On the one hand, this could be professional support from a technical point of view, but you also want to get actively involved (e.g. with your own contributions) with regard to the operation of the pool in order to reduce the running costs – according to Strommer, the municipality has to contribute 80 to 100,000 euros every year.
