Is Liberty Media at risk of trouble from the EU?
As is well known, Liberty Media owns Formula 1, MotoGP is also expected to soon come into its ownership and Liberty Global, a sister company, has control of Formula E. For the Belgian MEP Pascal Arimont, this smells like a monopoly.
Therefore, the member of the Christian Social Party from the German-speaking area of the country has submitted a written request to the European Commission to examine the matter. He also brings up the case of Andretti, because for him Liberty Media blocked the team’s approval, as he wrote in the newspaper The Importance of Limburg said:
“Commercial agreements make it very difficult for new teams to enter Formula 1, potentially unlawfully restricting competition.” In the USA, the Andretti case is already being reviewed by competition authorities.
For Arimont, the request is about “protecting consumers and ensuring fair competition.”
Liberty Media is also criticized elsewhere because their companies Live Nation and Ticketmaster control the concert ticket business in the USA. There is a threat of a breakup by the United States Department of Justice, In May, CEO Greg Maffei downplayed this.

New asphalt, different tire wear?
Next weekend, the teams will have the second softest options in the Pirelli range available with tire compounds C2 (hard), C3 (medium) and C4 (soft).
In recent years, drivers have repeatedly complained about the immense bumps on the Circuit of the Americas, or COTA for short. This is largely over now, as large parts of the route have been resurfaced.
The areas between turns 9 and 12, as well as 16 and 3 have been repaired, which also means that the two DRS straights have now been refreshed. But how does this affect tire wear? Pirelli in the press release:
“Abrasion from the track may therefore have changed since last year, as a new bitumen layer is usually smoother than an old track surface. This makes it all the more important to collect as much data as possible in the single hour of free practice early on Friday afternoon , because on the Austin weekend we will be racing again in the sprint format.”
We’re excited to see what influence the new asphalt has, what strategies will develop from it, and we’ll give you all the information over the coming weekend on the Formula1.de YouTube channel in our live streams, this time late at night, with our data expert Kevin Hermann present. Subscribe now!

Formula 1 has a new “Heroo”
This year’s US Grand Prix will be presented by Pirelli, who have once again enlisted the help of an artist for the trophies in the main race. This time the Italian Matteo Macchiavelli was allowed to let off steam and created “Heroo”, a character that is very reminiscent of a famous mouse from Florida.
The press release states:
“The trophy is an interpretation of the connection between the racing car and its tires and at the same time a work of art that combines beauty and elegance with the excitement, the feeling of speed and the quality of the materials that make up a Formula 1 car. The trophy has the shape of a human silhouette with arms raised triumphantly, encased in carbon fiber and sitting on a rubber base.”
Collectors can also be happy because this trophy will be available to buy as a limited edition replica.

With the power of the eagle
Of course, Haas isn’t messing around at the home race in the USA and has at least presented the design of Nico Hülkenberg and Kevin Magnussen’s racing suits.
Very clean and tidy, with the logo of the new technical partner Totoya Gazoo Racing and the identifying feature of “American freedom”, the bald eagle, as a silhouette on the legs, integrated into a star, matching the stars and stripes on the country’s national flag.
This symbol will certainly also be visible on the car.
