Since it started with the smartwatch 10 years ago, Apple has been as punctual as a Swiss watchmaker when it comes to presenting the new version of its Apple Watch. As it does every year at this time, the Californian manufacturer unveiled the 2024/2025 iteration of its smartwatch, alongside the announcements of the iPhone 16. However, the occasion was a little special, since today is the 10th anniversary of the Apple Watch, launched on September 9, 2014.
Let’s kill the suspense right away, the newly announced Apple Watch Series 10 will probably not go down in history as a model that turned the tables. Nevertheless, if this iteration does not revolutionize the connected watch of the brand with the apple, it brings its share of improvements and new features.

A refined design with larger screens
The Apple Watch Series 10 thus retains the overall aesthetics of its predecessors, but now sports a larger screen. The small model thus goes from 41 to 44 mm, while the large one also gains 3 mm to reach 48 mm. This increase in size is accompanied by a thinner chassis, which should offer better comfort on the wrist. Apple also offers a new screen technology, called Wide-Angle Oled, which could be translated as Oled grand-angle in the language of Molière.
Finally, the watch benefits from increased water resistance, allowing diving up to 20 m deep. The Cupertino manufacturer is also releasing a new Jet White color in polished aluminum. Above all, one of the most striking new features for the design is the addition of a titanium finish, in the same vein as that introduced by the iPhone 15 Pro last year. Available in three colors, the variants of the latter are announced to be 30% lighter than the other versions.

Health and sport in the spotlight
The Apple Watch has been so successful over the years primarily for its medical and activity and wellness tracking features. The Apple Watch Series 10 was therefore particularly anticipated at the turning point in this area. The watch is now able to detect sleep apnea, a disorder that affects many people and can have harmful consequences on health.
For those who enjoy diving or surfing, Apple has also added water depth and temperature sensors, as well as a seven-day calendar of wave conditions.
Better autonomy and a price that doesn’t change
Under the hood, the Apple Watch Series 10 features the S10 processor, an avatar of the S9 used in the Series 9. While performance gains should be limited, Apple claims to have worked on optimizing energy consumption, thanks in particular to the Wide-Angle Oled mentioned above. It should notably allow you to gain a few additional hours of battery life, knowing that the watch also charges faster than before. Great promises that will have to be judged on the spot.
Other new features include the arrival of the Translate app on the Apple Watch, improved photo wallpapers, the ability to play music directly on the watch, better voice isolation during calls, and all the new features of watchOS11 announced last June.
Apple Watch Series 10 price and availability
In terms of price, the new Apple Watch Series 10 is priced at €449 (42 mm) and €479 (46 mm) for the WiFi + GPS version or €569 (42 mm) and €599 (46 mm) for the 4G cellular model. Prices close to those of the Series 9. On the other hand, if it’s one of the three new titanium colors that catches your eye, the bill climbs significantly. It costs €799 for the 42 mm or €849 for the 46 mm. Note, however, that for these more expensive models, cellular connectivity is included from the outset. Regardless of the version chosen, you can pre-order them now, for availability starting September 20.
Timid evolution for the Ultra 2
Finally, those who were waiting for an Apple Watch Ultra 3 will have to wait a little longer. Apple simply presented a new Saturn Black color for its Watch Ultra 2, as well as an extension of the Hermès partnership to the Ultra range. We also note the appearance of a titanium Milanese bracelet, which brings the price of the set to €999. For availability again from September 20, 2024.
