The RTM announces this Thursday the upcoming implementation of new gates in Marseille. The objective is to better fight against fraud. All metro stations are affected.
The differences between these new PAFs (anti-fraud gates) and the old ones are as follows: first of all, there is a difference in form. The new portico will be “diamond point”. The idea being to deter fraudsters as much as possible from relying on the chest of the gantry.
Taller and more robust windows
Unlike the current gate, the window will now be higher. And then the new windows are also more robust than the old ones. In total, these are nearly 200 gates that should be set up on the network.
“Their size will depend on each station and their safety standards,” emphasizes Jean-Pierre Yamin, director of fixed installations and systems at the RTM.
A 12.5 million euro project
These installations will be done gradually. From the month of July, the Saint-Charles station will be equipped with it. Then, in 2023, this should extend to Joliette, Malpassé and Colbert stations. Knowing that the end of these facilities is scheduled for 2027.
And behind this project 12.5 million eurosthere is an objective: “Diving the fraud rate in half by 2025. Today, 16% of customers who enter the metro do so without paying,” points out Hervé Beccaria, general manager of the RTM.
