In the Austrian capital, a new system for annual paid parking by place of residence is being introduced, and the sticker on the windshield will remain in history, BTA reported.
From autumn, park sheriffs, as the police officers who control who is allowed to park in the area with an annual sticker issued by the regional municipality, will scan the number plates of cars with a special application on their mobile phones and issue fines to those who are not entitled to permanent parking or have not paid for temporary parking in the corresponding place.
In this way, the work of the police officers is made easier, since they will not need to get off the road during the control, but also for the drivers, since there is no need to peel off the expired and stick up-to-date stickers on the windshield, as well as arrange formalities at glass breakage and replacement.
Costs for producing the stickers from special materials guaranteeing their security against counterfeiting are also saved.
