New animated series ‘Your Friend The Column’ promotes postural hygiene and physical activity for children

Radio Canarian Television (RTVE) has programmed for this weekend the premiere from serie Your Friend The Column, a project devised by the Official College of Physiotherapists of the Canary Islands (COFC) and developed by the artist from El Hierro Rubén Armiche, from Mitones Film. Its fixed schedule will be on Saturdays and Sundays at 8:50 in the morning, in the slot that this television channel dedicates to children.

The retransmission of this animation series responds to the agreement for the transfer of public communication and television exploitation rights signed last March between this professional association and the public entity with the aim of disseminating the importance of correct postural hygiene, promoting physical activity and avoid risk factors, such as a sedentary lifestyle or poor eating habits. The series will also be published on the television website the same day it is broadcast, as well as on its YouTube channel.

“This work also aims to value the figure of the physiotherapist. He is the health professional indicated to treat back ailments, the one who is legally qualified and trained for it and, therefore, his role as an educator and in the prevention of pathologies is fundamental ”. This is how Vanesa Eugenio, vice president of the COFC, explained the objective of this project at the presentation of this agreement. “We want to continue insisting on the importance of movement, of an active life, because the bad habits of our minors will lead to adults suffering from pain and pathologies”, she added.

For his part, Francisco Moreno, sole administrator of RTVC, indicated in that same act that “the intention is that, through this series, healthy living habits are generated and, in addition, to give space on public television to an initiative of civil society that has to be as present as politics and the rest of the public activities”.

Rubén Armiche, director and creator of Your Friend the Column, highlighted that he has tried to “combine physiotherapy, creativity and technology in a pioneering and complex project. We wanted to be very rigorous with the data and adapt it to the scripts, which is why many professionals from the College of Physiotherapists have been involved”.

The series will consist of eight chapters, about ten minutes long. Each of them takes place in one of the Canary Islands. In this way, the culture, customs and landscapes of the Archipelago are very present. This is reflected, for example, the blue chaffinch, the Icod dragon tree, the Roque Nublo, the dwarves of La Palma, the Chinijo Archipelago marine reserve or the Timanfaya Devil. The main characters, two children (Mar and Lorenzo) and the robot Physiothey will discover in each of their trips important concepts about the care of our body, the importance of the spine and its care in childhood, in addition to the important work carried out by physiotherapists.

The series, aimed at the entire educational community, is specially designed for ages between 6 and 12, that is, more than 107,000 boys and girls from public, private and subsidized schools in the Canary Islands. It is also about instilling in them values such as teamwork, empathy, the value of learning and respect for differences.
