New and interesting details of the interior of Xbox Series X

We are still a few hours away from knowing more exactly what Microsoft wants to tell us about the interior of Xbox Series X. Specifically at 2:30 Spanish time there will be a talk on Hotchips where technical details about the machine will be given. It is true that everything that will come out of there it is not a language for any ordinary user, but we will try to bring you the information in the most understandable way possible.

We have already told you what has been extracted from the filtered slides of the presentation with regarding ray tracing. Now it is the turn of some details about the interior of the console.

Xbox Series X Details

From the slides we can draw very interesting conclusions, for example, the power consumption will be very similar to what Xbox One X currently has. This is important for a console with so much power, I was very concerned that the console was gluttonous in this sense, luckily it is not.

Some interesting details also point towards the 64 ROPs for the Xbox Series X GPU, the use of a Machine Learning interface for games, and that the GPU takes up almost half the space of the entire APU.

But the surprise comes in two key points that to date were not 100% confirmed.

  • Xbox Series X will have a 100% CPU independent audio chip. It’s the first time we’ve seen this since Nvidia’s MCPX for the first Xbox. Even the Xbox One SHAPE chip isn’t fully independent.
  • The L3 cache memory for the CPU is 8 megabytes. To put it in perspective, Xbox One X used a combination of L1 and L2 cache of 1 and 2 megabytes respectively.

Perhaps what has caught my attention the most is that the GPU is so large and that this is the first time that we see L3 caches on consoles and of such a considerable size. It is hard for me to imagine and a lot that the console falls below 550/600 euros with everything that fits, we will see.
