As the federal government recently announced, the amendment to the Volunteer Act is taking shape. Among other things, this will ensure that donations to sports clubs are tax deductible and will also bring further relief. “We are very pleased that the invaluable voluntary commitment of our clubs is now being more legally recognized. The change is well deserved, a great improvement for volunteer work and could become an economic stimulus package for sport,” said SPORTUNION Burgenland President Karin Ofner. This means that long-standing SPORTUNION demands have been implemented, from which thousands of volunteers in Burgenland in the sports sector alone would directly benefit, as the umbrella organization announced in a broadcast. The joy is correspondingly great: “Our thanks go above all to Finance Minister Magnus Brunner and Sports Minister Werner Kogler, who have achieved another milestone for sport,” said Ofner.
So that the new possibilities can be implemented properly, SPORTUNION is already developing new tools. For SPORTUNION Burgenland managing director Patrick J. Bauer, the idea of service comes first: “The tax deductibility of donations must not overwhelm our clubs, but should open up additional financial sources for them. We are already working with all SPORTUNION state associations and our federal organization on tools to make it as easy as possible for clubs to collect donations.”
SPORTUNION Burgenland also demands that “others follow this positive step” and also advocates for administrative simplifications for sports clubs, especially in funding accounting.
Further details on the tax deductibility of donations for sports and other charitable areas, which will apply from January 1, 2024, can be found on the website of the Federal Ministry for Art, Culture, Public Service and Sport:
