New AMD technology can improve the frame rate and resolution even further

We already know that AMD plans to release FidelityFX Super Resolution, a competitor to Nvidia’s DLSS, on June 22nd. IGN today received confirmation from Microsoft that AMD’s new ultra-sampling technology will support the Xbox Series X / S.

“At Xbox, we’re excited about the potential of AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution technology as another great way for developers to increase frame rate and resolution. We’ll be reporting more about it soon, ”a Microsoft spokesman told IGN.

Xbox Series X / S that support FidelityFX Super Resolution will be useful for Microsoft 9th generation console owners to get higher frame rates or resolutions in games that will run on any console. And all of this without any additional effort to achieve these technical improvements.

This wasn’t surprising as Microsoft announced it during Game Stack Live FidelityFX-Tools-Integration in development kits for the Xbox Series X / S. This enabled developers to leverage platform-centric improvements with AMD FidelityFX directly from development kits, laying the foundation for FidelityFX Super Resolution support.

FidelityFX Super Resolution is an ultra high definition technology that improves the performance and picture quality of supported games. FidelityFX Super Resolution includes four image upscaling modes: Ultra Quality, Quality, Balanced and Performance. Each of the four focuses more on achieving higher image quality or increasing the frame rates in games.

Unlike its competitor, Nvidia’s DLSS, an image upscaling technology that uses artificial intelligence to upscale lower resolution images and make them appear in higher resolutions without requiring a lot of power, FidelityFX Super Resolution doesn’t require machine learning . Plus, it’s open source, which means it can support both AMD graphics cards and Nvidia GPUs including the older GTX series.

AMD showed a test of the superior FidelityFX resolution with a Radeon RX 68000 XT and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 GPU powered by Gearbox Software’s Godfall in an “epic” graphical game setup with ray tracing enabled that showed some interesting results, but with Caution should be considered of salt given AMD’s internal test results. However, FidelityFX Super Resolution will be launched on desktop and laptop computers on June 22nd.
