New AMD processors will debut on AM5 by the end of this year, says Gigabyte

AMD may release new Ryzen processors for AM5 sockets later this year, according to information from Gigabyte. It is not known whether this already concerns the Zen 5 architecture or rather a renewed version of the existing Zen 4.

The information comes out a press release that Giga Computing has put online. That is the enterprise branch of component manufacturer Gigabyte. In the press release, the company announces some new servers that use AMD Ryzen 7000 processors. In the press release, the company writes that those servers use Ryzen 7000 socs with an AM5 socket, but also that “the next generation of AMD Ryzen desktop processors that will be released later this year” will also fit on AM5 sockets.

It is not clear what exactly Giga Computing is referring to, but it is the first time that the arrival of renewed Ryzen 7000 desktop processors for 2023 seems to be confirmed. While not ruled out, it also doesn’t seem likely to be Ryzen socs with the Zen 5 architecture. In a roadmap published last year, AMD already wrote that Zen 5 would not be released until 2024.

It is more likely that these are renewed Zen 4 chips, possibly chips at 4nm. This could be the Zen 4c that has more slower cores, or an unannounced Zen 4+ variant. AMD announced the Ryzen 7000 series in August last year. The new series may be announced in that month of this year.
