Mayor Nikolay Rashkov is waiting for the development of the airport in Gorna Oryahovitsa. He insists on low-cost airline flights to and from the runways in the city, following the example of Plovdiv and Burgas. For this purpose, he will request authority from the Municipal Council to start talks with mayors of other municipalities to create an association.
It, for its part, will negotiate with the concessionaire of the airport to accommodate these low-cost airlines, and for the municipalities concerned to bear part of the financial burden and airport fees, because the companies do not have sufficient capacity.
“I expect at least 10-15 municipalities to show interest, because they are all interested in making the airport in Gorna Oryahovitsa work,” commented Nikolay Rashkov.
The municipality has already given a construction permit for the extension of the runway and the concessionaire – the consortium “Civil Airport Gorna Oryahovitsa” has its hands free.
The procedure for the transfer of municipally owned properties continued for more than a year. It is about two fields of a total of 16 decares, which will help the airport to function fully for the transportation of cargo and passengers. The track is planned to be extended by 600 meters this year.
