New AI features for developers and city planners

Google has unveiled new features for Google Maps and Google Earth based on generative AI. These innovations are intended to help developers and city planners use information more effectively and tackle complex tasks. For example, developers can now use the “Grounding with Google Maps” feature to feed their AI applications with current location data. Among other things, chatbots on real estate websites can provide information about nearby fitness studios – including opening times and reviews.

Drivers should also benefit from AI integration: Rivian, an American manufacturer of electric cars, will soon display AI summaries of locations directly on the infotainment screens of its vehicles. This means drivers can quickly and easily receive information about restaurants, shops and other points of interest.

The new AI functions in Google Earth also provide city planners with a useful tool. The AI can carry out complex analyzes here and, for example, identify districts with a low density of charging stations for electric vehicles. By automating such analyzes the time required for data evaluation is significantly reduced, says Google.
