Alfons Schuhbeck is threatened with further trouble. But a celebrity girlfriend continues to stick by him. Your criticism of his opponents is clear.
After the Munich public prosecutor’s office’s new charges against Alfons Schuhbeck, cabaret artist Monika Gruber remains steadfast in her support of the imprisoned star chef. Gruber told the “Bild” newspaper on Thursday that they cannot evaluate the investigators’ new allegations, but: “All I know is that the justice system is treating him like a serious criminal.”
Gruber was outraged to the newspaper: “Rapists and murderers, some of whom do not even have a residence permit, but only a tolerated status, are allowed to go to the cinema when accompanied. Apparently for the purpose of rehabilitation.”
The new allegations against Schuhbeck are serious: delaying bankruptcy, fraud, subsidy fraud and withholding wages in hundreds of cases. Since the indictment, the chef, who has been serving a prison sentence for tax evasion since 2023, has had all prison relief removed.
Gruber’s criticism of her general accounting is not only aimed at the judiciary. TV broadcasters and Schuhbeck’s former friends are also getting their fat: “To be honest, I find that – sorry – sickening,” she comments on the behavior of those “who had eaten their way through his bars for years” and had now turned away from Schuhbeck.
The cabaret artist also reminds us of Schuhbeck’s achievements: “There is no person who has done more for the image of Bavarian cuisine than Alfons.” She regrets that the public seems to have forgotten this. It’s not Gruber’s first mission for her friend. During a previous prison visit, she described Schuhbeck’s everyday life in the Landsberg prison as “tolerable, but of course not worth living for a man like him, who had been among people practically day and night.”
