The building will culminate at 36 meters high and will be installed at the Pierre Duboeuf stadium.
While this new relay antenna was to stand at the Léo Lagrange stadium last year, it will finally be at the Pierre Duboeuf stadium in Bron. Its goal: to distribute 5G throughout the Lyon conurbation. A real challenge for operators, its deployment is also wanted by the French State, which wants this network standard to be accessible throughout the country.
First rented by the operator Free, and sub-let by Orange and Bouygues, the imposing pylon could bring in nearly 20,000 euros per year for the municipality of Bron, at least until 2035 (and the expiry of the agreement). It will be located between the bleachers of the Brondillant stadium and the second pitch of the complex.
Unsurprisingly, the location of the pylon is not unanimous. Lucile Morel (PS), municipal councilor for the city of Bron, opposes the project and deplores the risks associated with exposure to the waves: “Bron has enough stints. (…) It is in fact to cover Lyon that the operators have been eyeing the Duboeuf stadium for a very long time, next to the swimming pool and the Picasso college, where many children will therefore be exposed.estimates the elected opposition member in the columns of the Progress.
Others like Evelyne Brunet, assistant for city policy and public works, prefer to highlight the intelligent functions of 5G antennas, which “transmit when there is a need and not all the time as 3G and 4G antennas do.”
These large antennas remain a major challenge for municipalities, so as not to lose control of these buildings and thus limit operators from turning to the private sector to extend their network. If the gaudy elected officials seem rather favorable to the project, the socialist opposition does not see it that way and rejects the project. The installation date is still unknown and should be communicated when the subject has been sealed to the blustering city council.
