The DSW women want to attack again after being relegated to the volleyball district league. After all, there are duels against the second team again.
DARMSTADT – “We can’t really explain it properly,” Christina Kunkel still seems at a loss. For years, the DSW Darmstadt volleyball players have been at the forefront of the state league. After the first half of the season, they were still on the way up with 15 points as second in the table. But in the end there was a bitter relegation to the district league.
No victory wanted to succeed after the winter break. The DSW women fell to the penultimate place – that meant relegation. “It was an unfortunate combination,” says Kunkel, who was no longer available after the turn of the year because she had children.
If there was a long break in the round from Christmas to March due to Corona, Lisa Ritter also dropped out. Player Leonie Henrich was also missing from April. “And Thyrza Kievik was absent the whole season anyway,” reports Kunkel. “After the long break, we couldn’t get back in. It’s really bitter that we’re relegated.”
But she doesn’t want to mourn the messed-up season for long. Rather, the focus is on the future: “We want to attack again in the district league and play for promotion.” With Sabrina Schnellbächer, who is returning from VC Wiesbaden, powerful reinforcement is added. In addition to Kunkel, Sina Lauer and Anika Krips are also returning after their breaks.
To support coach Jascha Müller-Kästner, who works for TV Bommersheim himself and can only lead training once a week, “we would like someone else to take over training on Tuesdays,” Kunkel notes. In the coming season, your team will have two very special games: As relegated, the first women meet the second women, who have been playing in the district league for years. Club duels that have not existed in the round at DSW for a long time.
