Never throw away watermelon rinds. They can easily be made into a fantastic jam

Watermelon is a popular summer delicacy. It can be eaten alone, added to desserts or drinks. But most people cannot use it in its entirety, while the peel contains many valuable vitamins and minerals. Did you know that you can make delicious jam from it? There are even two ways. It’s up to you which one you try.

Simple watermelon jam

The first method is easy and fast, it is intended for direct consumption. You only need a few ingredients. You will need 600 g of melon peels, 2 oranges, a lemon and 200 g of sugar. First, cut the green edges off the skins. Then cut the peels into small cubes, put them in a bowl, add lemon juice and sugar. Stir the mixture, cover with cling film and leave in the fridge to rest, preferably until the next day. The next day, remove from the fridge, pour the mixture into the pot and add the oranges cut into pieces. Put the pot on the stove and let it bubble gently for about 45 minutes. Finally, let it cool and mix everything with a hand mixer. You can either use it immediately, or fill it in jars and turn them upside down – then they will last longer.

Watermelon jam differently

For the second method, you will need more ingredients. In addition to 1 kg of peels, prepare 200 ml of apple cider vinegar, 1 kg of icing sugar, 1 vanilla sugar and lemon. Unlike the previous recipe, you can start preparing right away. Prepare the watermelon cubes as in the previous case. Instead of putting them in a bowl, put them straight in the pot. Add 2 liters of water, 200 ml of vinegar and let it cook slowly for 2 hours. After two hours, drain, cover with cold water and return to the stove. Add sugar, ½ liter of water, lemon juice and lemon zest. Then cook the mixture until it thickens. Blend to the desired consistency and transfer to glasses. Turn them upside down for 5 minutes, and then wrap them in towels or a blanket for half a day. Prepared this way, it will last a long time.
