Never share cosmetics even with friends or relatives, here’s the reason

TEMPO.CO, JakartaWomen often share personal items, including cosmetics, to a close friend or relative with the excuse of wanting to try or forgetting to bring. But this habit turns out to be dangerous for everyone who shares it.

“Sharing cosmetics and make-up is usually seen as a good gesture between friends, sisters, cousins, etc. but people may not realize that it can harm both people,” said Rachit Gupta, physician and CEO of OxyGlow Cosmetics, quoted from the Indian Express, Saturday, February 26, 2022.

There are several risks that can arise from this habit, here are some of them.

Sharing eye makeup products
The eye is one of the most sensitive and delicate organs, but it also harbors a lot of personalized bacteria. For people who wear contact lenses, bacteria can stick to the lenses and get trapped. Sharing things like eyeliner, mascara, etc. can lead to eye infections. It also puts a person at greater risk of stye, pink eye, and other bacterial infections.

Share lipstick
In addition to being unhygienic, sharing lipstick or lip color can be a cause of transmission of the virus from one person to another. This viral infection can cause cold sores that can last a long time.

The risk of acne
Using skin products that are not suitable for your skin type can cause acne breakouts, so make sure that the products you use are suitable. In addition, makeup products are also a place for development bacteria. If the concealer or foundation is left uncovered or uncovered for some time, bacteria can remain. Just one sharing can transfer the infection and cause breakouts.

Brush and applicator
Even though the brush and applicator makeup cleaned frequently, bacteria may still thrive. There is a high risk of the bacteria spreading and causing infection.

Tester makeup
There is a high possibility that the makeup tester contains bacteria because it is used by many people. No one can guarantee that all these people do not carry bacteria. So, never apply the tester directly to your face, always use it on your hands. Avoid holding it directly with your fingers, always use a disposable tool to apply it and then wipe it off with a cotton swab.

So, if you feel that sharing cosmetics is a sign of good friendship, the truth is quite the opposite. “You will prove to be a better friend if you don’t share cosmetics and make-up,” says Gupta.
