Never Push a Slow Friend If You Meet a Bear!

Jakarta

Trips into the wild can provide unexpected experiences. One of them is to meet a bear.

Launch CNNSunday (12/3/2023), the US National Park Service has some important tips on what not to do if you encounter a bear in the wild.

“If you come across a bear, never push a slower companion, even if it is your best friend,” the agency said on Twitter. They use light jokes to give safety tips against bears.

“Seeing a bear in the wild is a special treat for any visitor to the national park. While it is an exciting moment, it is important to remember that bears in national parks are wild and can be dangerous,” they explained.

Bears of various species exist in a variety of habitats throughout the United States. Brown or grizzly bears are found throughout Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, and Washington, while black bears can be found throughout most of the Northeast, the Appalachian mountains, and the West Coast, in addition to parts of the South and Midwest.

The service indicates that as spring approaches, the bears will become more active. The National Park Service advises visitors who encounter bears to keep their distance from the animal and not startle the bear if they haven’t seen you.

If the bear notices you, you should identify yourself as a human by standing still, speaking quietly, and waving your arms. Hikers should also travel in groups whenever possible.

The website also notes that bear attacks are rare but can happen.

On Twitter, users appeared more interested in asking the National Park Service for friend suggestions than learning more about bear safety.

One user, for example, asked what they should do, “if they think I’m a friend but I only think of them as an acquaintance”.

“Friendship is special, but it doesn’t happen by accident. It takes effort and trust to build lasting friendships. Good luck,” the agency replied.
