Never Letting Go, India Is Now Threatened With The Third Wave Of The COVID-19 Tsunami

Jakarta

India still haunted by the threat of the COVID-19 tsunami wave. Although the second wave was reported to have subsided due to mobility restrictions, some experts are now worried that India is counting the time towards the return of the third COVID-19 tsunami wave.

Given, the full 2-dose vaccination has only reached about 6 percent of the vaccination target in India. While the first dose of vaccination only reached 22 percent of the target population.

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) said there were still many people who continued to hold mass gatherings without implementing health protocols even though the COVID-19 pandemic had not improved. In fact, most of the people in the crowd have not received the COVID-19 vaccine.

The rise of face-to-face meetings of the Indian community is the cause of the great potential of the third wave COVID-19 in that country.

“It hurts to see that both the government and the public are complacent and hold mass gatherings without following the COVID-19 protocol,” said IMA in a statement, quoted from BBC, Tuesday (13/7/2021).

Now, India is recorded to provide vaccines to 4 million people every day. However, to achieve all vaccination targets by the end of 2021, 8-9 million vaccine recipients are needed per day.

Meanwhile a number of states reported stock shortages COVID-19 vaccine. Several public vaccine centers in Delhi have even closed after running out of injections.

Now, authorities in the state of Uttar Pradesh are preparing to host the annual Kanwar Yatra religious festival on July 25. Experts emphasized that if the event were to continue, strict health and safety protocols were required.
