On Friday, Kay Vestengen was supposed to drive up ski slopes in Nordkisa, as he has done for many years. It is peak season for skiers in the field, and everything must be in order for the weekend break.
When he gets a little further into the track with the machine, he notices that something is not right.
– I see that there are car tracks far inside the ski track, Vestengen tells Dagbladet.
Shortly afterwards, the trail runner finds the culprit. A car has got stuck in the middle of the track, and the driver of the car is nowhere to be seen.
It was Eidsvoll Ullensaker Blad who mentioned the matter first.
Had been there before – in the summer
When Vestengen arrives at Kopperudtårnet, which is a common hiking destination in Ullensaker, he meets three people and two dogs.
It turns out they own the abandoned car.
– I asked them if they saw that there were ski tracks. They hadn’t seen that, says the cross-country skier, and continues:
– They told me that they had been there before, but that there were no ski tracks there then. It turned out that it was in the summer.
Then there is an old forest road in the same place.
Stepped in
Vestengen steps in and assists in getting the car off the track.
– Everyone was happy in the end, he says, and adds that the unfortunate tour group were grateful for the help.
He doesn’t think they’ll do the same thing again.
Even Vestengen became a richer experience.
– This has never happened to me before, but people driving on the ski slopes is a regular occurrence now in winter, he says.
