Mayor Ochsenkühn is deeply affected by the sudden death of the musician and cabaret artist
The news about the sudden death of Lizzy Aumeier came as a complete surprise to Neumarkt: “I am deeply shocked and very sad about the early and sudden death of this exceptional artist from Neumarkt,” was Mayor Ochsenkühn’s first reaction.
Lizzy Aumeier was born in Neumarkt in 1964, grew up here and went to school until she graduated from high school. She learned the violin and Irish flute as a child, got involved in the Neumarkter Schlossspiele and gained her first stage experience until she dedicated herself entirely to the double bass as her instrument, which she played on many occasions, including with the “Collegium Musicum” orchestra .
She then studied double bass at the conservatory in Nuremberg, and later also jazz, but life as an orchestra musician was not her goal. Spontaneous, quick-witted and cheeky, with a talent for improvisation, wit and self-irony, she entertained audiences for many years and always integrated her music with virtuosity.
Initially an insider tip in neighboring Franconia, it quickly conquered the stages in Bavaria and beyond, but could never be classified or defined. She brilliantly combined cabaret and comedy with a wide spectrum from classical to jazz to rock, always with her husband and artistic partner Andreas Stock at her side.
Despite her success and fame, she never lost sight of Neumarkt and the region, was always present with new programs or appearances, for example at the Old Town Festival and the “Summer in the Park”, and enriched and shaped the cultural scene in Neumarkt. In her stage programs she always portrayed Neumarkt as her hometown and the Upper Palatinate: “Upper Palatinate – Offensive – Oberstark” was her motto.
The city of Neumarkt idOPf awarded Lizzy Aumeier with the Culture Promotion Prize in 1994 and the Culture Prize in 2003. Despite many high-ranking honors and awards, this recognition of her hometown was particularly important to Lizzy Aumeier.
“We are losing an exceptional artist, a strong Neumarkt resident with a lot of courage, skill and artistic flair, and many Neumarkt residents are losing a long-time friend and companion. On behalf of the city of Neumarkt, I express our deepest and warmest sympathy to her husband Andreas Stock, her mother and her siblings,” the mayor continued.
