Neuching: Security concept for the Lüßer Weiher

Clay court is relocated, entrances blocked, posts instead of signs: the Neuchingen municipal council has dealt with the security concept for the Lüßer Weiher.

Lüß – It was not a meeting of the building committee, but a “standing” – and that with lousy temperatures. The security concept around the Lüßer Weiher was discussed in advance at an on-site meeting so that the bathing season can be considered secure if the local council follows the committee’s unanimous recommendation. Despite the icy temperatures, its members took a whole hour to listen to advice from attorney Georg Krafft on site.

First focus: the sand playground right on the water. It must be moved away from the bank. As Krafft explained, this is the “immediate area for children and families”, but in its existing form it does not conform to DIN. Accordingly, after the bank, the deep water should not begin so suddenly. A gradient of 1:10 over ten meters would be acceptable, but after six meters the water suddenly begins to get deeper. An “on-site warning” of changing water depths is also required.

The fact that children like to play by the water is well known and understood by the ten committee members, but it is not without problems. The building yard fills the sand area with three to four cubic meters of sand every year. What disappears from there is carried into the water by the children. Now the committee decided that the sand area should be moved three meters from the shore. The general warning notices at the entrance areas are supplemented by signs warning of sudden changes in water depth.

Basically, the lawyer saw the problem that whenever the impression of an official bathing establishment at a natural lake such as in Lüß is consolidated, the expectations of the users also change. That is why he did not believe in a chain of buoys to demarcate the area where the water suddenly deepens.

Faced with the same question, the panel stood less than 30 meters from the entrances. The stones that come to light here cannot stay. Because the moment they are overgrown with algae, they get really slippery. But the stones also protect the bank from erosion and are therefore necessary.

The committee finally worked out a compromise under the chairmanship of Mayor Thomas Bartl (CSU): A bay at the entrance is retained and shaped accordingly, the other areas are blocked as entrances by compacting the already existing planting. Markus Hermansdorfer (WGN) suggested using certain grasses that do not expand. The committee wanted to avoid cutting back the lying area. According to a proposal by Hermansdorfers, who is also chairman of the Neuching sports fishing club and therefore knows the water perfectly, the area should be upgraded with benches.

According to the decision, two ladders with non-slip surfaces are to be installed, the existing stairs will be removed. Last point: the barrier that no longer fulfills its function because it has become crooked. A replacement is not available after consulting the lawyer: The path across from the building along the lake is an escape route. It is part of the bathing area and must therefore also be kept free of cars.

No citizen representative wanted to believe in the effectiveness of a signage, so it was unanimously decided to set posts that can be removed from the building yard for mowing work with a key that every ambulance has on board. The parish council now gets the package on the table.
