Neu-Isenburg nursing services report new challenges that they have had to master since the outbreak of the pandemic. Nevertheless, there is still no Covid-19 case.
The responsibility of the outpatient care services for the elderly and sick has increased in the course of the corona pandemic in recent months. At a press conference in Neu-Isenburg, the nursing directors from five institutions made it clear that it was a balancing act for them to protect the risk groups in particular and at the same time to ensure that these people did not get lonely at home. So far, at least in Neu-Isenburg, this has worked out well: Neither the nursing staff nor those in need of care have had a Covid 19 case.
“Our customers have moved closer to our employees,” said Silke Tremel, managing partner of Home Instead senior care. There is more longing for address and for contacts. But the team and the nursing services have also moved closer together. “It has become clear to us that we are not competitors, but have to work together,” said Markus Munari from Pflegedienstleistungs-GmbH Liberté. “The people involved have networked.”
This was sorely needed, especially in the spring, in order to procure disinfectants, protective clothing, disposable gloves and mouth and nose protection for the nursing staff themselves and for their patients in view of the scarce resources.
According to Jozef Varga, owner of Inter Mediate Core Varga, 88 percent of those in need of care are bedridden or tied to the house, twelve percent “still go out”. “In everyday support, we showed the patients how to put on masks and how to use them,” said Simone Müller from the Avalon nursing service. Nevertheless, since the outbreak of the pandemic, more purchases have been left to the nursing staff because many seniors do not dare to go to the supermarkets. “In addition to the medical services, we take on more domestic services,” says Varga.
In pandemic times, in addition to daily care, the tasks of the care services also include inquiries about the daily state of health and temperature measurement. And a certain serenity. “If the team stays calm and transports this calm, we may also be lucky that the patient stays calm,” says Müller.
