Between two shoots in the dead leaves, a pumpkin spice latte in hand, the autumn lovers shower social networks with autumnal videos. And the “hoa hoa hoa” crushes everything else, Harry Potter marathons included. You didn’t understand anything? We’ll explain it to you (and give you our tips for having a wonderful weekend).

Byyyyye, summer! As the cold sets in gently, but surely, on social media, we say goodbye to crazy summer trends. Like this story about sunburn-style makeup that makes you want to fall on your knees screaming “WHY, WHYIIIIII?!”.

But as the internets never take a vacation, on Instagram, TikTok and others, we have already given birth to seasonal trends, flavored with dead leaves and pumpkin spice lattes.

And this year, it is clear that “hoa hoa hoa” clearly overshadows “tataaatatataaataaataaa-ta”.

A near-monopoly for Potterheads

Let’s put things in the right order. Historically (or at least since books and films existed), normal people have associated the arrival of autumn with the return of Harry Potter marathons. A sofa as soft as our motivation, a blanket and a cat on our knees, a little rain outside the window… And presto, it’s autumn, it’s Harry Potter time.

Because who wants to read the adventures of the young wizard on August 8 when it’s 37 degrees in the shade? As a reminder, we are still talking about 19 hours and 36 minutes, and this is just for films.

In short, we were saying: the gray of September is accompanied by cheerful things to keep you warm. Like squash soups, pumpkin spice lattes, Harry Potter marathons. QED.

Since the beginning of the month, and like every year at the same time, Millennials lacking vitamin C have been showering the internet with Potter-style videos. Why take advantage of these long, increasingly cold evenings to discover new films, when you can have such a masterpiece?

Due to its slightly chilly atmosphere, the Harry Potter universe readily embodies autumn. An atmosphere, however, warmed by the fireplaces in the common rooms (and by Seamus Finnigan’s annoying tendency to blow things up #thetrurissavent).

But now fans of the saga by JK Rowling have something to worry about. For several years, and particularly this fall 2024, another fantastic fiction is on the way to becoming THE seasonal reference.

Two “autumn” sagas that clash

Because the films and books of the Twilight saga also perfectly embody the cool autumnal days that fall upon us. With its permanent fog and its annoying little rain 365 days a year, Forks, the town where the plot takes place, has enough to stand up to Hogwarts and its cold castle.

Hence the “hoa hoa hoa” trend, in reference to the song Eyes on Fire by Blue Foundation, which we hear in the first Twilight.

A fog reminiscent of Yverdon, damp fir trees, and this “hoa hoa hoa” atmosphere which evokes, for many users on social networks, autumnal nostalgia.

While the film was released more than fifteen years ago, the song has experienced a resurgence in popularity in recent years thanks to its affiliation, in the minds of its followers, to the fall.

“Hoa hoa hoa” and a long weekend in front of the TV

When autumn arrives, on social networks, more and more people claim to want to watch the vampire saga. Videos with a “hoa hoa hoa” atmosphere abound, as do comments from users preparing to devour the five films.

That’s a little less than 11 hours of viewing time. If you want to combine the two autumn fictions, Harry Potter and Twilight, you will need a little more than 30 hours.

I did the calculations for you: if you start Friday evening at 8 p.m., go to bed at midnight, resume at 9 a.m. Saturday, until midnight, resume Sunday around 9 a.m., you should be finished, counting a few breaks to go raid the fridge and fill the microwave, around 11 p.m.

It was nothing.

Do we like to follow trends, even the craziest ones?
