Network of rapists at UCLouvain: “The story I told you is not a true story”

The rumor of a network of rapists at UCLouvain circulated following a series of messages posted on the Facebook page UConfessions, where students can anonymously submit for publication any daily hassle, any story in the water of pink or grandiloquent rant.

The message slice, known under the hashtag #lasuitedemain, has been broken down into seven chapters and 80,000 signs, with a more than realistic appearance, during part of the student blockade, since December 31. The pitch? A network of rapists falls on the neo-Louvanist university environment. Except that the story is false. At least for the most part. The author of the post recognized this Monday evening on Mark Zuckerberg’s social network:
“I haven’t just arrived in Louvain-la-Neuve, my name is Sarah, I am not a girl. The story I told you is not a true story, even if it is going to Leuven and that a lot of details make it realistic. ”

The editor nevertheless specifies that a very real story inspired the texts that kept the UCLouvain students in suspense for almost a week. “In November, in Brussels, a girl was boarded by a false” collecto “taxi, before being raped by a man who wore a STIB uniform. This is what I was inspired for the story fake security guards. Of course, the goal was not to create a climate of fear. I deliberately chose to do this during the blockade so that it does not incite some to no longer want to leave their homes. . ”

The post series has truly gone viral on Facebook: “More than 3,000 comments per episode, 20,000 votes on the reality / fiction survey and nearly 100,000 people reached by the last episodes.” The author justified his action by evoking a desire to put forward an “awareness campaign” in order to make young people aware of the risks of harassment and rape. “It was by playing with the border between reality and fiction, by integrating references to the neo-Louvanist world, that this story was able to reach as many people, and therefore that my objective of awareness could be integrated by so I’m aware that it could have challenged, even shocked, but the best awareness campaigns are often the most upsetting. You all now know that the story is false, but you also understood (if you did not know it already) that we must always be careful in the evening, without of course falling into paranoia. “
