CHICAGO, Feb. 6 / PRNewswire / – Berkshire Hathaway’s private jet company NetJets announced Monday that it had temporarily suspended plans to add supersonic jets to its fleet after learning that Aerion, backed by Boeing, had no funding to produce could collect.
NetJets, the world’s largest private jet company, announced in March that it had acquired the rights to purchase 20 AS2 jets from Aerion. However, the plans for the first supersonic business jet ran into funding problems.
“In the current financial environment, it has proven extremely difficult to draw a conclusion about the new capital requirements that are planned and necessary to complete the transition from AS2 to production,” Aerion said in a statement.
Following Aerion’s announcement, NetJets announced that plans for the supersonic fleet had been put on hold.
“However, we are still interested in the future of supersonic aircraft and will investigate other companies,” he said in a statement to Reuters.
