We saw a lot of exciting new indie projects at this year’s IndieDevDay, but few stood out like NetherWorld.
This stylish action-adventure game explores themes like addiction, sex, and divorce, which aren’t typically the main focus of video games.
At the event, we spoke with Hungry Pixel’s director of communications and narrative, Albert Serra, who told us “The theme of the game is love.
When asked about how sex is depicted in the game, Serra said: “The main character has sex with his beloved neighbor, who is an old lady, and we also explore the rights of older people to have sex. We want to explore ideas about love and sex,” he continued. All the different meanings and situations of sex.
When asked how the team determined the game’s striking visual style, Serra told us that “graphic art was the way to go because we didn’t have the team size or knowledge to create more refined visuals.” He continued: “We also incorporated 3D lighting, combined with pixel art, to enable a more realistic approach.
NetherWorld has yet to set a release date, but plans to launch between late 2024 and mid-2025. You can watch our full interview below:
