NetherRealm and WB Games have announced Mortal Kombat 1, a reboot of the popular fighting series, with new mechanics and game modes. Although specific details weren’t revealed, players can expect to encounter familiar characters and “cameo fighters” to aid them in battle. In addition, The game retains its signature gory elements, as shown in the trailer, but it will be different from Mortal Kombat 1 from 1992.
The new game will be set in the new era timeline set by Liu Kang’s rise to the top in Mortal Kombat 11 back in 2019, and similar to its predecessors, the game will include a story mode, an exclusive roster of characters, and a new combat system.
Kameo Fighters to help out during battles
NetherRealm has confirmed the Mortal Kombat 1 roster, which includes popular characters like Liu Kang, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Kung Lao, Kitana, Mileena, Shang Tsung, Johnny Cage, and more.
Shang Tsung will be available as a pre-order bonus, Johnny Cage will have access to the skin of Jean-Claude Van Damme through the Kombat Pack DLC, and Johnny Cage is a “cameo” fighter that can assist players during a match.
In the game, a new feature called Kameo Fighters has been introduced, where these fighters can be summoned for help during matches and are separate from the main character roster.
Mortal Kombat 1 beta will be released in August
Mortal Kombat 1 will arrive on September 19 for PC (via Epic and Steam), PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S, and pre-order customers will have access to the beta in August.
The Digital Premium Edition costs $110 and grants early access to the game on September 14, a Johnny Cage-style skin by Jean-Claude Van Damme, early access to playable characters and Kameo Fighters after launch, and for ultimate fans, Kollector’s physical edition costs $250. $1 and includes a 16.5-inch Liu Kang sculpt, matching in-game skin, art prints, and special bag.
