At the request of the Netherlands, Colombia has arrested a man who allegedly played a role in the record capture of 2,500 kilos of crystal meth in Rotterdam in 2019. The man is said to have been an intermediary for Mexican cartels.
The 43-year-old born Colombian is suspected of being involved in the production of methamphetamine, also known as crystal meth, in the Netherlands. He would have done this on behalf of Mexican drug cartels.
The man is also held responsible for importing large batches of cocaine to Europe and setting up drug labs in the Netherlands. He is also said to have laundered 20 million euros and sent them from the Netherlands to Mexico and Colombia.
The Netherlands had been looking for the man for some time. He was arrested on July 18 in the city of Tuluá, west of the capital Bogota. He is detained awaiting his extradition to the Netherlands.
The crystal meth was found in June 2019 in a business premises in Rotterdam. An investigation showed that a wall had been built across the width of the building, with a hidden space behind it. There was a large number of bags with drugs in it.
