The Netherlands is investigating how sick and injured children from Gaza can be brought to the Netherlands to receive “good care and shelter”. Outgoing Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruins Slot said this after a meeting with her EU counterparts in Brussels.

It is still unclear how many children this could involve. Other EU countries have similar plans.

According to Bruins Slot, any collection of children must be done in good cooperation with aid organizations such as the Red Cross and Doctors Without Borders. Diplomatic coordination is being sought with Israel and Hamas.

Bruins Slot said that it is not yet clear how many children are involved:

‘The Netherlands prepared to receive children from Gaza’

Outgoing Health Minister Kuipers said on X that the Netherlands is prepared to accommodate children if such a request arises. This is not yet available at the moment.

If that happens, the National Patient Coordination Center will look at which hospitals have room to accommodate these children.

6800 injured children

The UN organization Unicef says in an update that more than 4,000 children have been killed and 6,800 children have been injured as a result of the war in Gaza.

The hospitals in Gaza that are still open lack anything to help victims.

Additional help

Egypt plays an important role in delivering emergency aid to the people of Gaza. Kuipers indicated to his Egyptian counterpart last week that the Netherlands is ready to provide additional aid.

The Netherlands does not always have the resources that Egypt needs most, such as materials for trauma surgery, in stock. The Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport is investigating whether these resources are available elsewhere in Europe.
