AMSTERDAM (AP) — The Netherlands will miss Matthijs de Ligt in the Nations League finals after the Bayern Munich centre-back suffered a calf injury.
The Dutch federation reported on Monday that De Ligt was injured during training prior to the semifinal they will play on Wednesday against Croatia.
Spain will face Italy in the other semifinal.
The Netherlands is hosting the final phase. The duel for third place will be played on Sunday in Eschede and the clash for the title will be in Rotterdam.
The Dutch asked UEFA to replace de Ligt with Daley Blind, another Bayern Munich player.
The Netherlands are trying to win their first major title since winning the European Championship in 1988.
