Mia Nicolai and Dion Cooper failed to secure a place in the final of the Eurovision Song Contest. It is the first time since 2015, when Trijntje Oosterhuis participated in Walk Alongthat the Netherlands did not reach the final.
Burning Daylight did not receive enough votes from viewers at home. In previous years, the jury could have made a difference to the Dutch entry, but since this year it has been decided that the jury will no longer award points in the semi-finals.
“I think we had a very difficult semi-final. It was just a very strong pot. For the first time this year we only had televoting and therefore no jury voting. And we really gave everything,” said Cooper in a first reaction.
Sweden, Norway, Serbia and Finland have managed to qualify for the final. It will take place this Saturday at 9 p.m.
Croatia, Moldova and Switzerland will also return to the Eurovision stage on Saturday. The Czech Republic, Portugal and Israel also have a spot in the final.
The second semifinal of the Eurovision Song Contest will first take place on Thursday. Belgium, Austria and Australia, among others, will then compete for a place in the final.
