The water level is still high in various places in the Netherlands. The water level of the Overijsselse Vecht reached a record high on Wednesday and may rise further on Thursday. Deventer must take into account the flooding of the IJssel in the next 24 hours.
When the IJssel rises above 6.30 meters, the river can flood in Deventer. That critical limit has now been reached and the water level is expected to rise further.
The water level of the IJssel is no longer rising as quickly as at the beginning of this week. But the municipality expects that the peak is still to come. The river would reach its highest point in the Overijssel city on Thursday or Friday.
The municipality has laid down sandbags and taken other measures to protect the old city center. The bags make the quay more than 10 centimeters higher. “In principle, this should be just enough,” a spokesperson told NU.nl.
The peak of the Rhine at Lobith has now passed. On Thursday morning the water slowly subsided again at the place where the Rhine flows into our country. That peak will move across the rivers in the Netherlands in the near future.

Overijsselse Vecht is already at a record high
The Overijsselse Vecht was measured at 13.14 meters above NAP on Wednesday, reports the Vechtstromen Water Board. The river has never been so high.
The water board warns that the level will remain high in the near future. This is partly because the water supply from Germany is increasing somewhat and drainage is difficult.
Volunteer dike guards are deployed along the banks of the Vecht. They inspect the dikes for vulnerable places.
Loevestein Castle closed from today
High water also causes problems in Gelderland. Loevestein Castle is closed on Thursday from 4 p.m. due to high water. It will remain closed until January 1.
The castle in the Gelderland municipality of Zaltbommel is no longer accessible because the access road is flooded. The castle, which is now a museum, is located in the floodplains of the Waal and the Afgedamde Maas.
On Wednesday evening, the water was 1 centimeter lower than the asphalt on the Munnikenlandse Maaskade, the only access road. The water level is expected to rise by about 30 centimeters.
