Broadcaster AVROTROS will announce on Monday which artist will represent the Netherlands at the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest. More than six hundred songs were submitted, which was a record. A selection committee selected the song and artist.

In a video that the selection committee shared on social media today, they explain what steps they have taken in recent months to make the choice.

There has been a lot of speculation for weeks about which artist will be the successor to the duo Mia Nicolai and Dion Cooper. With their song Burning Daylight they didn’t make it to the final. It was the first time since 2015 that the Netherlands did not reach the semi-finals.

Potential candidates had to come and sing live

Despite this disappointment, the enthusiasm to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest remained high. AVROTROS announced at the beginning of October that the selection committee had received more than six hundred songs, which was a record. Under the leadership of the new committee chairman Twan van de Nieuwenhuijzen, the search for the best song began. Potential candidates were invited to sing their entry live.

In recent weeks it was announced that artists such as The Jordan, Bankzitters, April Darby, Joost Klein and Numidia have submitted a song. Some, such as The Jordan and April Darby, are already known to have lost weight.

The Eurovision Song Contest will take place next year between May 7 and 11 in Malmö in Sweden, after Loreen won this year. The Netherlands is participating for the 64th time.
