The Netherlands is allocating 100 million euros to contribute to the Czech Republic’s initiative to supply extra ammunition to Ukraine. Outgoing Prime Minister Mark Rutte announced this on Monday after a meeting in Paris.

The plan to raise money for additional ammunition for Ukraine comes from the Czech Republic. According to Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala, a total of fifteen countries are “interested in contributing”. It is not known exactly which countries are involved, but the Netherlands has already promised to contribute.

“First of all, it is essential to deliver what we have promised and to see what else we can do,” Rutte wrote. X. According to him, the money is intended to supply hundreds of thousands of artillery shells to Ukraine in the short term.

“We know that Putin is preparing for a long war. We must continue to show that we are steadfast and that time is not on his side,” Rutte said.

Last week, the Netherlands concluded a security agreement with Ukraine. In it, the Netherlands promises to provide military support and assistance in the reconstruction of Ukraine over the next ten years. Germany, France and Denmark also concluded such an agreement with Ukraine.

Macron does not rule out sending soldiers

French President Emmanuel Macron organized an international meeting in Paris to discuss further support for Ukraine. About twenty countries are attending the conference. Besides the Netherlands, France is the only country that has actually pledged a contribution.

Macron called a Russian defeat by Ukraine “indispensable for the security of Europe.” He wants to work on providing “more and faster” support to Ukraine. He also said that sending European soldiers to Ukraine is not an option, but that it cannot be ruled out.

Since the Russian invasion two years ago, Ukraine has been mainly dependent on the United States for money, weapons and ammunition. Macron believes that Europe must do more and “cannot just look to the Americans to help Ukraine”.
