Netgear announces that the price of its new Orbi generation with router and two satellites is 1700 euros. The Orbi Quad-band WiFi 6E Mesh System not only supports connections on 2.4GHz and 5GHz, but also 6GHz.
The Orbi System in the RBKE960 Series is Netgear’s first mesh system to support Wi-Fi 6E. The addition of the 6GHz frequency band should make networks less prone to congestion. It is a four-band router system, with throughput speeds of 1.2Gbit/s, 2.4Gbit/s, 2.4Gbit/s and 4.8Gbit/s. In addition, a band serves as Wi-Fi 6 mesh backhaul between the router and satellites.
The Orbi AXE11000 router includes a 10Gbit/s Ethernet port, a 2.5/Gbit/s variant, and three Gigabit LAN ports. The satellites have a 2.5Gbit/s port and three Gigabit LAN interfaces. The Orbi runs on a quad-core processor at 2.2GHz and has 1GB of RAM and 512MB of flash memory. Twelve antennas have been integrated, with which, according to the Dutch press release, a range of up to 600 square meters can be served, while on the American site a range of 835 square meters is mentioned.
Users can set up a mesh home network with WPA3 security, as well as add a guest network, a network dedicated to Wi-Fi 6E devices, and an IoT network. The latter can then serve for smart home devices that still support WPA2.
Netgear sells the Orbi RBKE960 system with a router and two satellites for 1,700 euros. In addition to the white version, the bundle also appears in black.
