Netflix has done the trick Malcolm & Marie, a film starring Zendaya and John David Washington. According to Deadline puts the streaming service out of the competition with a bid of 30 million dollars (more than 25 million euros).
The deal was closed during the Toronto Film Festival, the American entertainment website continues.
It by Sam Levinson (Euphoria) directed love drama was shot when many film productions suffered from the lockdown of the US government. Malcolm & Marie is one of the first films to be completed since the COVID-19 outbreak.
The film, which was shot by Levinson at the request of Zendaya (photo), was shot at Feldman Architecture’s Caterpillar House in California between June 17 and July 2. The building consists largely of glass. During the recordings, extra measures were taken to prevent the spread of the virus.
According to Deadline there was a fierce competition for the film. HBO, Amazon and Apple, among others, would have been interested in the title.
Malcolm & Marie is about a couple who come home after a successful film premiere and end up in a relationship crisis. Washington can also be seen in the recently released movie Tenet. Zendaya, whose full name is Zendaya Maree Stoermer Coleman, has starred in some of Disney’s popular children’s series and also has a career as a singer.
