Through a statement issued by the Vice President of TV Global, Netflix just announced that it will allocate $ 5 million to programs that identify, train and offer jobs to creative women around the globe.
In the last week, the platform announced the creation of the fund for Creative Equity, which will invest USD 20 million a year for the next five years. The purpose is to create a more inclusive hiring structure within production. With this announcement, it is confirmed that the first USD 5 million will go to programs directed towards women.
This initiative will be carried out through associations and specific programs of Netflix, thinking of supporting various women and initiatives. From workshops for aspiring screenwriters and producers, to opportunities as assistants in productions, they will allow them to gain experience and have a guaranteed place in the audiovisual field.
Among the initial programs for women they will support include names such as 50/50 collective, Into the Wild and the new project Women in Post.
The statement was given by the same Vice President, Bela bajaria, who also commemorates the participation of women in the entertainment industry.
“We hope that many more first times will emerge thanks to the bottom of the platform for the Creative Equity. Experience has taught me that great stories are universal: they can come from anywhere, they can be created by anyone, and they can be liked by anyone. What matters is telling them in an authentic way. Now we must make sure that voices that were traditionally disadvantaged have the same opportunities in the industry, as men have had for many generations, ”concludes Bela.
