Netflix will receive nearly 9 million new subscribers in the last quarter of 2019

Netflix streaming service In the fourth quarter of last year, almost 9 million new subscribers were added worldwide. That is more than expected; the company had counted on around 7.5 million new customers.

Netflix has a total of more than 167 million subscribers in more than 190 countries. The service nowadays produces feature films as well as series. Among them there are two that have an Oscar nomination: The Irishman from Martin Scorsese and Marriage Story from Noah Baumbach. The fantasy series too The Witcher did well. The quarterly profit was just under 530 million euros, on a turnover of almost 5 billion euros.

Where Netflix was a pioneer when it comes to streaming video, the company is becoming increasingly competitive in that area. For example, the past quarter was faced with similar services from Apple and Disney. NBC, HBO and the start-up Quibi also have advanced plans for new streaming services. Netflix has an advantage over the others when it comes to knowledge about the customer: the company has collected large amounts of data about its users in recent years.

This raises the question of how many services users want to subscribe to, apart from the subscription fee that they want to pay per month at most. In the Netherlands, Netflix costs 10 euros per month, Apple TV and Disney + are cheaper. Netflix expects to welcome 7 million new subscribers in the coming three months.
