Netflix, TV Series | Norwegian series with international success on Netflix

– It’s fun, and almost as nice a Christmas present as the wine I got from my wife.


Kyrre Holm Johannessen tells VG. He is the series creator of the series “Abducted” which is now winning on the streaming service Netflix.

The series, which premiered on TV2 in April this year, has entered Netflix and on Christmas Eve it placed in fourth place on the list of the most watched series in the world, according to FlixPatrol which ranks the channel’s series and movies.

– It is quite cozy for me who lives by telling stories that many millions of people around the world chose to sit down on Christmas Eve and see the series I was involved in making, Holm Johannesen tells VG.

The 48-year-old is married to comedian and actress Lisa Tønne (44).

Together with Israeli Ronit Weiss-Berkowitz (67), Holm Johannessen developed the series, and on Christmas Eve it was streamed in 51 countries, and only five days after it premiered on Netflix.

The series, which goes by the name “The Girl from Oslo” in English, is about 24-year-old Pia who is traveling in the Middle East. On her way through the Sinai Desert, she, along with two Israeli friends, is kidnapped by IS terrorists.

The main character is actress Andrea Berntzen (23), known from Erik Poppe’s “Utøya July 22” and in December you were able to follow her in the role of Marielle in the Christmas calendar “Nissene i bingen” on TV-Norge and Discovery plus.

According to the streaming list, “Abducted” has only been beaten by “Emily in Paris”, “The Witcher” and “Money Heist”.

Kyrre Holm Johannessen states that Netflix has been involved in and financed the project from the very beginning.
