Netflix Stops Allowing App Store Payment, Subscribers Need to Update Payment Method
Netflix subscribers who still pay their monthly fees through the App Store in-app purchase system will soon need to add a new payment method to keep their accounts active, Netflix is telling customers.
Netflix, the popular streaming service, has recently announced a change in their payment policy, affecting subscribers who rely on the Apple App Store in-app purchase system to pay their monthly fees. Customers still using this payment method will be prompted to add a new payment method in order to continue their subscription.

Netflix made the decision to halt new subscriptions through the App Store in 2018, but allowed existing subscribers who paid via this method to continue doing so. This change is driven by Netflix’s desire to avoid paying Apple a 15 percent cut of subscription fees. As a result, customers in “some” countries, including the United States, will now be required to provide an alternative payment method to stay subscribed.

It is unclear how many Netflix subscribers still utilize the in-app purchase payment method since the option was removed nearly six years ago. Since 2018, Netflix has required customers who use Apple devices to sign up for subscriptions through their website instead of the Netflix app, with devices like the iPhone and iPad redirecting users to a sign-in screen. Therefore, this policy change will only impact those users who have still been utilizing the App Store payment option, yet the exact number of affected customers remains undisclosed.
Update: Netflix has clarified that the changes only affect basic plan members in select countries, such as the United States and Canada, and it does not impact all Netflix users.
