Netflix Soon to Expand into the Gaming Business

Indiekraf.com – Netflix is rumored to be making a big rare soon with the expansion of its service into video games. This is one way for the company from the United States to continue to grow, especially now that they have many competitors such as Disney+ Hotstar, HBO Max, etc.

Netflix’s seriousness to enter the world of gaming is evidenced by the joining of Mike Verdu, a former executive of Electronic Arts and Facebook. Verdu is reportedly set to become Netflix’s vice president of game development.

The joining of Verdu is arguably the right step taken by Netflix. This is because Verdu previously had experience as Facebook’s vice president in charge of game and content development on Oculus virtual-reality headsets.

In addition, according to Bloomberg.com, Netflix has no plans to add additional fees for the game’s content, according to a source who did not want to be named. In fact, many large tech companies are selling gaming options in addition to their online video services.

Apple Inc. is one example. They have a dedicated gaming platform called Arcade and a TV+ service for videos or movies. However, its customers have to pay more to be able to play games on the platform.

Netflix’s decision to develop games on their service is also quite a risky move. Many Hollywood companies have had a bad history when they wanted to turn their movies into games.

Disney, the world’s largest entertainment company, has shut down most of its internal gaming operations after years of failure. Even so, there are also companies that have made huge profits in the gaming world, one example being Warner Bros. which has created some interesting titles over the years.

With original content that has been created by Netflix, they also have the potential to turn their original series or film into a game. Especially with the success of several of their K-Dramas which have become hits in several countries, especially in the Asian region.
