‘Pearl’, the animated series that Meghan Markle devised and would be broadcast on Netflix, has been canceled by the streaming service. That is what the entertainment website Deadline announced. The reason is currently unknown.

It was not without pride that Netflix announced last summer that a new animated series was coming, Pearl titled, which was conceived by British Duchess Meghan Markle. The series would revolve around the adventures of a twelve-year-old girl who finds inspiration in influential women from history.

“Like many girls her age, our heroine Pearl is on a journey of self-discovery as she tries to overcome life’s challenges,” Markle said at the time. “The series will celebrate extraordinary women throughout history. We are very happy to announce this.” The series would be made at Archewell productions, the production company of Markle and Prince Harry.

It is not known how far Markle already stood with the development of the series, but according to Deadline is it true that Netflix Pearl silently deleted. There is wild speculation that the British royal family is using its influence to thwart Markle, but that seems unlikely. More likely, Netflix is going through difficult times and is gradually evaluating whether it really should continue to offer so many different new productions.
