Netflix releases “The Old Guard”, a film shot largely in Marrakech (PHOTOS)

Netflix released its original film “The Old Guard” on its platform on Fri, July 10. Inspired by the comic strip of the same name created by Greg Rucka (screenwriter) and Leandro Fernández (designer), this film was mainly shot in Marrakech last summer.

Big names in world cinema like Charlize Theron, Kiki Layne, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Harry Melling and Van Veronica Ngo, among others, made the trip to Morocco last summer for the shooting of their film. For no less than two weeks, they traveled to different places in Marrakech and regions while benefiting from the support of a large local team who provided them with all the assistance necessary for the smooth running of their shooting.

With a duration of 2h5min, the film was shot in many places in Marrakech and regions including the Berber village of Obaki on the Plateau du Kik (a region of the Atlas Mountains which served as an Afghan village), in Place Jemaa el-Fnaa, Tamansourt, Harbil, Tayzelt, in the Agafay desert, in Boukhriss and Kettara.

Note that the streaming platform has hired designers from the Arab world to design a local version of the movie poster incorporating the monuments of the Kingdom. The Egyptian artist, Ahmed Rafaat, for his part has redesigned the poster in collaboration with filmmakers to reflect the presence of the heroes of the film in emblematic places such as the Jemaa el-Fnaa square.
