According to The New York Times Last month, Netflix planned to launch a new membership type by the end of 2022. At that time, the public was buzzing with information that there would be ads on Netflix.
“We’ve left a huge customer segment behind, which are those who say ‘Hey, Netflix is too expensive for me and I don’t mind ads,'” Sarandos said. The VergeTuesday (28/6/2022).
Furthermore, Sarandos said that Netflix was adding a subscription tier with ads.
Sarandos ensures that Netflix will not add ads to its existing membership plans. Rather, it’s an ad rate for customers who want lower prices and are willing to watch ads to enjoy streaming services.
“We didn’t add ads to Netflix that you know now. We added ads for people saying ‘hey I want lower prices and I want to watch ads,'” Sarandos said.
Previously, the streaming service was suspected of releasing a new, ad-supported Netflix subscription package. Last April, another Netflix CEO, Reed Hastings said he was open to the idea.
