BREDA – Netflix is shooting film in Breda for the Christmas film The Claus Family 2 at the A Cup of Cake store in the Veemarktstraat. Today is the last day of recording with actors such as Jan Decleir, Mo Bakker, Josje Huisman, Bracha van Doesburgh and Renée Soutendijk.

People who occasionally visit the Veemarktstraat will have noticed last week: the striking cupcake shop at the beginning of the road is hidden behind black cloths and that is intriguing. Are they doing a lot of remodeling? Breaking down? Or is A Cup of Cake perhaps part of a forensic investigation? The answer turns out to be with Netflix, because the cookie shop is currently being used as a location for the movie The Claus Family 2.

Success
Last year Netflix released the movie The Claus Family. This Christmas film about a boy who transforms from Christmas hater to Christmas hero was a huge success. At least big enough for the streaming service to shoot a sequel.

Colorful interior
According to Netflix’s PR manager Judith van der Rijt, the fact that part of this is now being recorded in Breda has to do with the colorful interior of the store. ,,After a considerable search, we finally arrived at A Cup Of Cake. And thanks to the fantastic cooperation of the city of Breda, we were able to get it sorted quickly.” A total of four shooting days are planned in the city. The rest of the film was already shot in Belgium.

According to Van der Rijt, the fact that the case is so hermetically closed is not only due to prying eyes. A number of night scenes are also shot in the building. Isn’t it difficult to shoot a Christmas movie just before the summer starts? ,,Yes, especially because the actors and actresses are wearing thick winter coats and Christmas costumes while it is very warm. But the atmosphere is good, and that’s the most important thing.”

Actors
The Claus Family 2 is a sequel to last year’s Christmas movie. The film is about Santa Noël Claus who has to get to work for Christmas with his grandson Jules. In the beginning everything runs smoothly until Jules receives a letter with a special question.

The cast consists of Flemish and Dutch actors, including Jan Decleir, Mo Bakker, Josje Huisman, Bracha van Doesburgh and Renée Soutendijk. The recordings in Breda will last until Sunday. The final result will be available on Netflix from December 7.
