Until now, all subscriptions to the American streaming service were ad-free. But Netflix has lost many customers and hopes to generate additional revenue with the advertising model. The Disney competitor will also soon show advertisements with its cheapest streaming subscriptions.
Netflix will launch the basic subscription with advertising on November 1 in 12 countries, including the United States, France, Germany, Spain and Italy. Rates vary from country to country, but are much lower than currently for the cheapest ad-free formula.
There will be 4 to 5 minutes of advertising every hour, the company says. These are points of 15 to 30 seconds each. The messages arrive not only before the films and series begin, but also in the middle of the broadcast.
