Netflix is working on a live-action series of ‘Pokemon’

Pokémon is at the center of a new project for Netflix: Joe Henderson will write and produce a live action series. The co-showrunner of Lucifer, a series that comes to an end with its sixth season, is involved in the production of the new project, which is currently in the early stages of development.

The Variety portal ensures that the approach chosen for the new Pokémon series is in the style of Detective Pikachu, the feature film that hit theaters in 2019 starring Ryan Reynolds and Justice Smith.
The streaming platform, which already offers animation programs such as Pokémon: Indigo League Y Pokémon Travel, has recently approved the production of similar projects as happened with Cowboy Bebop and One Piece.

Henderson has also been working in recent months on an adaptation of the Shadecraft comic, which he co-wrote with artist Lee Garbett, for Netflix, a project he announced in March.

The movie starring Ryan Reynolds and Justice Smith begins when the genius private detective Harry Goodman mysteriously disappears, forcing his son Tim to find out what happened. Harry’s former Pokémon partner Detective Pikachu helps him investigate – a lovable, hilarious and wise superdetective who surprises everyone, including himself. The two find themselves chasing clues through the neon-lit streets of Ryme City, a messy modern metropolis where humans and Pokémon coexist in a hyper-realistic world of live action. Here they will meet a series of Pokémon and discover a shocking plot that could destroy their peaceful coexistence with humans and threaten the Pokémon universe itself.
