Netflix is no longer the most popular streaming provider in Germany. Here we show who is now in first place.
According to Simon-Kucher’s 2024 streaming study, Amazon Prime is seeing increasing popularity among German streaming users. A full 43 percent of users who only have a streaming subscription choose Amazon Prime, while Netflix only reaches 29 percent.
Amazon is also ahead for users who have multiple subscriptions, with Disney+ often being chosen as an additional subscription. Amazon scores particularly well in the important “best price” category.

Lisa Jäger from Simon-Kucher explains: “Amazon Prime has a clear advantage in the race of streaming providers.” This is due, among other things, to the extensive bundle offer, which, in addition to Prime Video, also includes premium shipping, exclusive offers and Amazon Music .
Netflix, on the other hand, is particularly impressive because of the variety of its content. The platform wins in six categories, including “Best Pick,” “Hot Content,” and “Ease of Use.” Disney+ scores with exclusive content, while Apple TV+ is particularly impressive when it comes to “video quality” and “cancellation flexibility”.
The price-performance ratio of streaming services is consistently viewed critically by users. Disney+ in particular shows a significant decline in satisfaction, from 68 percent to 56 percent. Apple TV+ is also facing challenges: 41 percent of users are considering canceling their subscription.
