More than three million Czechs already use streaming services. 47 percent of Czechs aged 15 to 69 actively use at least one. The new data shows a significant increase in the first half of this year.

Data on the use of streaming services has been published by Atmedia, which has been organizing the Atmedia Index study for a long time. Streaming applications are particularly popular among viewers in the 25 to 34 year age group.

“The number of users of streaming services such as Netflix, Voyo or Max increased significantly in the first six months of this year – especially by 300 thousand to 3.1 million users,” said director of research and marketing Atmedia Pavel Müller.

The biggest increase in users in the first half of this year was due to the five most used streaming services on the Czech market – Netflix, Voyo, Disney +, Max and Prima +. “Some of them increased their user base by 200,000,” said Pavel Müller. Other streaming services, on the other hand, lost some viewers.

Netflix is ​​the largest number of users on the Czech market for a long time, which two-thirds of users of streaming services watch. The four largest paid services are used by fewer users, between 17% and 36% of users of streaming services.

“At the same time, it must be noted that a user does not mean a paying customer. Some users have access to individual platforms through shared accounts,” says Pavel Müller.

International services do not publish accurate data about users on the Czech market. In July, Voyo had 850,000 subscribers combined on the Czech and Slovak markets, 161,000 people paid to access Prima+.

Most Czech consumers are not satisfied with just one streaming service, on average they have access to two. Almost half of users of streaming services watch content on these platforms every day or almost every day, another more than a third at least several times a week.

More active viewers are women and also representatives of the younger generation. More than half of consumers aged 25-34 watch content on these platforms daily or almost daily, closely followed by consumers aged 35-44 and consumers age 15-24.

“Czech users of paid VoD services spend an average of 1 hour and 6 minutes a day watching them, which is about 8 hours in one week,” said Pavel Müller special data.

Research for Atmedia is traditionally provided by ReSolution using the CAWI method. 4,012 respondents from a Czech national panel (internet population aged 15-69) participated in the study. The survey was conducted in two waves for the first and second quarters of 2024 (April 5-22, 2024, July 3-23, 2024).
